This really seems like a first step to me. It's sexy, but primitive. I don't think the iPad will revolutionize things the way the iPod (pronounced "iPad" in Boston) did, but it will certainly start the revolutionary ball rolling. Apple may have helped get the door open to tablet computers slowly replacing laptops. They're not marketing it that way, which may be wise, but that's the most significant impact it will have. In fact, I'm hesitant to say that their marketing strategy is totally honest. Do people actually WANT three related devices? Isn't it already annoying to have to worry about two? And even the computer + phone paradigm makes more sense than computer + thing + phone. There's handheld and not - we don't really want to be stuck with a consumer model that involves an awkward in-between.

Correction: "iPad will do full 720p HD video", the iPad display is 1024-by-768, 720p HD is 1280×720, so it actually cannot do full 720p.
